Shefali Bagga is a former Indian journalist and television anchor at leading news channels like India Today and AajTak Tez. She became a familiar face after participating in season 13 of India’s most popular reality show, Bigg Boss, and is widely admired for her confident and resolute personality.
Was becoming an anchor always a part of your plan? Please tell us about your journey.
I was lucky enough that I started off with a very big group, India Today, as an anchor. It was difficult because many things have to be accomplished before one can become an anchor: from general knowledge and awareness to the way you speak, the way you look in front of the camera, the confidence you exude, etc. Becoming an anchor was not in my plans, nor was I passionate about it earlier. But while I was pursuing journalism, something clicked. I wanted to be in front of the camera and decided to work hard for my goal; I used to write scripts day in and day out, work on my voice modulation and imitated the persona of an anchor in front of the camera. My success as an anchor is the fruit of my labor.
What is the driving force that keeps you motivated?
I believe that my self-discipline keeps me motivated. Every day, I get up in the morning and make a point to set a target for that day. In fact, I tend to schedule the events for the next day before I go to sleep at night. This way, I have a plan for each and every day which helps me stay motivated.
You were one of the popular contestants on Bigg Boss 13. How has the experience shaped you?
My Bigg Boss experience has been amazing. I was invited to the show twice: once at the very beginning and later on as a wild card entry. I feel great that people now know me as a no-nonsense, strong woman who always takes a stand for what she feels is right. Being an anchor, people knew me as someone who took interviews with other people and narrated their accomplishments and life stories, however, Bigg Boss gave me a platform to express myself as a human being. It has changed my life and made me the recipient of so much love and adoration. I am grateful and it feels great!
Having been such a popular face on T.V, what are your future aspirations?
I am currently looking forward to some music videos, web-series, and should Bollywood have something in store for me, then I would most definitely like to have a go at it!
The coronavirus pandemic has unnerved people and staying positive has become tiresome. How are you coping and what message would you like to convey to our readers?
I think it’s very important to keep oneself busy during these times because there is so much vexation among the youngsters that they cannot go out. My Bigg Boss experience taught me to stay inside and not get frustrated easily. I keep myself busy by trying to learn something new every day, exercising, watching shows, making Tik Toks, and interacting with my friends and followers on Instagram and YouTube live. I am also learning to cook from my mother. Lastly, I would like to request everyone in lockdown to stay calm. It is our responsibility to stay indoors because it is the only way to stop the spread of coronavirus. We are in this together. Stay indoors, stay safe!
